Transforming Earth Observation Data for Evidence-Based Decision Making

The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) provides integrated and innovative Earth Observation (EO) science and technology, products, services and expertise to ensure the Government of Canada and other stakeholders extract value from EO data.  This presentation will highlight CCRS science innovation to transform EO data to value-added information products and services, in support of evidence-based decision making for a variety of domains including environmental assessment, public safety for floods and fires, and climate change adaptation and resilience.

Dr. Vern Singhroy

Dr Vern Singhroy is a professional engineer and senior research scientist at CCRS with over 30 years’ experience in  geological mapping, geological remote sensing, geohazards, teaching, international technology transfer and geo-engineering consulting. He is the chief scientist of  the CSA  RADARSAT Constellation Mission. He is also a professor at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France and an adjunct professor in Planetary Geology at the University of New Brunswick.  Dr Singhroy received many awards including the Canadian Remote Sensing Gold Medal Award, and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal. He received his PhD in Environmental and Resource Engineering from SUNY, Syracuse.

Vince Decker graduated from the Department of Geography at  Université de Montréal in 1997 with a specialty focusing on geomorphology and remote sensing. He has been at the Canada Center for Remote Sensing for the last 17 years, working on a wide range of applications from precision agriculture, burn area mapping, geo-hazard monitoring to emergency geomatics.
