Big Data Technology and Processes for Supporting Real World Applications

This presentation is aimed at an audience that has a basic understanding of the big data space, and are looking to run analytics on large geospatial datasets. The presentation will provide an overview of big data, including how its collected, how its stored, how its visualized, and how its analyzed. Storage, access and visualization of high velocity observation data will be highlighted, including objects that move and stationary objects that have changing attributes or readings. Several examples of big data uses with an explanation of the underlying architecture, software and technology will be given. Presentation topics will include issues, performance, availability, and scalability.A

Gordon Plunkett has many years of experience in Geomatics in both the public and private sectors. Currently at Esri Canada, Mr. Plunkett is a member of many boards and committees including GeoAlliance Canada, the Open Geospatial Consortium, the Community Map of Canada, the Canadian General Standards Board, Laval University and Carleton University. He has SDI editorial responsibilities for the CIG Journal – Geomatica and publishes several Esri Canada SDI blogs. Mr. Plunkett has worked on many Canadian and international SDI projects and he has been following cloud and big data developments for several years
